The Magical Storybook - is a fabulous production at the Gym from 30th November to 3rd December. There are over 250 children in
this show, and about 50 adults, ranging from age 3 to 48. They are all rehearsing and volunteering their time to raise money for
the Children’s program of the Barbados Cancer Society. These funds are needed for non-formulary medication, for PET scans
and brain scans and other specialized diagnostics as well as treatment unavailable in Barbados.

However, as we well know, this is far from the truth. In fact, all ages and population groups are affected by CVD, including women and children. CVD takes lives prematurely and causes severe illness and disability at high and devastating costs to families and societies.

Tobacco Dependency Treatment Training Workshop for Health
Care Professionals - Kingston, Jamaica May 30, 2012 - The use of tobacco is the most preventable cause of disease and death globally and indeed in our region. All our countries in the Caribbean have now ratified the WHO treaty, Framework Convention on Tobacco Control although so far, only Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago have implemented legislation to comply with this treaty. We are anticipating that in due course the other Caribbean countries will also pass legislation, and with this in mind, we need to build capacity in tobacco dependency treatment so that we will be able to cope with the anticipated increase in the demand for this service. This workshop will train health care professionals who interface with patients who smoke on a regular basis.

4th annual conference on Nephrology and Hypertension -
hosted by the Caribbean Institute of Nephrology, Department of Medicine, University of the West Indies, and the University of Michigan, Department of Medicine. January 26th-29th, Montego Bay Convention Centre Jamaica. During a survey of kidney disease in the English-speaking Caribbean, it was found that diabetes mellitus and hypertension were the commonest causes of kidney disease. In fact both contributed as much as 60% of the population of persons with kidney disease. more ...........
